Song listened to as I write this: Boards of Canada -Music Is Math (Psych Majora's Mask Soundfont remix)
You wake up log onto linkedin and you look at that...another flipping post about Artificial Intelligence going to take YOUR JOB and make YOU REDUNDANT and I'm just absolutely sick of it. It's not even funny like if these nit wits get their way, who's going to pay? The economy will collapse as it's not built for zero workers and to make it worse the capitalist class don't even want to modify it, to make it work for us and it peeves me the flip off!
But don't get me started on the UK Government, The UK government seems to be in bed with the AI spinsters They want to gut our copyright laws to allow wholesale infringement for profit, they want to build useless AI Datacentre's when Microsoft are pulling out of "Stargate" They want cut benefits but more then happy to throw money at daft vapour-ware and I'm just absolutely sick of it. The biggest head scratcher is that this government is clearly trying to implement austerity while not calling it austerity and implementing measures that if successful will gut jobs. Yet Rachel Reeves would walk into a room and shout "Growth, Growth, Growth" like Steve Ballmer. At least with Big Steve you know he's a marketeer. Rachel, you're supposed to be helping us!
I feel hopeless and empty, That I can't get anyware. Layoffs left and right and AI psychological warfare on linkedin. I also keep seeing some insanely daft trend like "Vibecoding" What is vibecoding you say? Vibecoding is the old fashioned art of winging it. BUT with AI!!!
There's actually a funny tweet somewhere. Someone decided to "Vibecode" but ended up getting reckt because he lacked the domain knowledge to secure his stuff, unfortunately. However it does show we as software developers are still needed even if Johnny CEO still wants to sit us out to the kerb like an abandoned couch.
As I play around with AI the more I'm convinced it's a grift and toy. Especially since, it's not sold on what it can do, It's entire value is what it can do in "5, 10, 20 years in the future" which it probably can't do. I'll be real using LLM's for text transformer related tasks like Spellcheck, translation, heck even computer vision is absolutely cool. But the fact big tech and friends push it into everything is super duper annoying. LLM AI is unironically like Navi from the legend of Zelda, it exists, it's annoying, It's needs to go away.
Apparently the largest AI startup that's ripe for IPO is insanely poorly financed that it could bring the entire bubble down, as I mentioned before Microsoft are already pulling out of Stargate. How long does Sam Altman has left? I honestly can't wait till the bubble pops, but when the bubble pops there's going to pain, suffering as it would mean more workers on the market less chances of me getting a new job, less opportunities, but I'll survive, I have to survive.
The entire hysteria and fear, anxiety about the future is slowly dragging me down. Thanks for hearing it out and listening to me vent for a bit.
Kind Regards, Jason Lees
